For over 185 years, two separate organizations have supported families in overcoming hardship and unhealthy behaviors in the community. The two merged in 2022 to found Firefly Children and Family Alliance. The nonprofit organization provides families in Indianapolis with parenting classes in English and Spanish. Now, they support educational workshops for parents and family members to raise healthy, happy children. Parents require skills and evidence-based information in order to be successful in their role. Childbirth and parenting education classes occur around Indianapolis at Community Hospital North and South. Virtual classes are also offered for a variety of classes, including breastfeeding, childbirth, and labor education. Their comprehensive birth and baby class is 3 weeks in length, either in person or virtually. Can’t commit to 3 weeks? A full-day birth and baby express class is offered in person. They even have an expecting dad class with specific information for new and seasoned fathers. The Family and Friends CPR class is offered in person at Community Hospital North, and the class is about 3 hours long.
Breastfeeding support group for moms and babies who are currently breastfeeding to find support from other parents and a trained lactation consultant. They do require pre-registration for the support groups to provide enough space for mothers and babies. Breastfeeding support groups are also available at Community Hospital North and virtually. If you plan to give birth at any of the Community Hospital locations, you can take a pre-recorded virtual tour online. In-person parenting classes will offer a live tour of the Indianapolis maternity area while you are in class.
