Helping Families In Need Through The Indiana Diaper Bank

Did you know that diapers cost, on average, $100 per child per month? In Indiana, 1 in 2 families struggle to afford diapers. Many families will have to limit children’s diaper changes per day due to insufficient funds to purchase diaper essentials. Indiana Diaper Bank was founded to bridge the gap for families in need of these items. Their goal is to distribute over 170,000 diapers each month.

About the Indiana Diaper Bank

3001 E. 30th St., Indianapolis, IN 46218

Formed in 2017 by mother and founder Rachael Suskovich, the Indiana Diaper Bank empowers families in Indiana by providing reliable diaper supplies. Rachael wanted to raise awareness at a state level for the need for diapers in the community. Surprisingly, diapers are not covered through public assistance programs such as WIC, SNAP, or Medicare. Through her research with community leaders, she learned that diapers are an essential item with limited government support. Studies have shown that not having access to diapers and diapering essentials has been linked to health concerns for children and maternal depression and may impact a child’s educational development.

The non-profit organization is there to provide a gap in support for families in need. Easily local centers on their site. But be sure to call for diaper availability before you go. In the 6 years the organization has been operating, they have distributed over $4M diapers! Can you imagine the impact that has on families in the community?

Recipient families have reported lower stress on themselves and their families through the support of the diaper bank. Also, over $26K in wipes have supported families in need. Those numbers are impressive and continue to grow with the support of over 55 partner agencies. Most recently, the Indiana Pacers basketball team has supported the bank through a diaper drive with the assistance of Kroger grocery stores. I love seeing how a community can continue to grow and love one another.
